9th Birthday Celebration

Trying to think of something different to do for my daughters 9th birthday in November.

We are limited to where we live, last year we did a crafty ceramic party, and before that a softplay etc. I was trying to sort out a cupcake decorating party but didnt fancy a load of kids running round the house and no option to stick them in the garden due to time of year, that was £10 a head.

I have this year approached an american style ice cream parlour to see what they do and for £5.50 ahead the kids get a can of pop, a pizza or giant hotdog and a ice cream sundae. I can do or hire entertainment if I want but not sure I want to do that. How would you feel if your child was invited to a party where it was just a bite to eat then sent home with a party bag & piece of birthday cake?

Tbh I've got a 9yo daughter and I'd think it was fine. By that age softplays are often becoming too 'young' and they're not old enough for other experiences. My son went a friends 11th birthday which was a meal in a restaurant (admittedly they went by limo!).

When my DD was 9 back in March. I took her and her best friend to a beauty therapist who curled their hair, applied (subtle) lip gloss and painted their nails - birthday fell in Easter hols so there was no issue about removing it 24 hrs later for school and then took them for something to eat. It bridged the gap between a princess make-over which they were too old for and a teen one with face masks etc which they were too young for.

You could also consider a day trip to somewhere not too far with just 1 or 2 friends. My DD went with same friend yesterday for her birthday and they went on day trip to Knaresborough to see Mother Shiptons well. When I told dd I'd visited same place as a kid and made a wish that came true, I've never seen her get so
giddy about visiting somewhere where 'dreams come true'. She was so excited about going I wish I'd thought of that one.:rotfl:

Reading your post, the film Grease jumped into my head. At 9, is she likely to have seen it? (i remember i was in yr 5-6 at school when i first saw it...not sure if thats same age bracket?)
How about adding fancy dress so that its a bit more than just food? The girls could dress up like Pink Ladies, and the boys could gel hair like the T-Birds.
    Just an idea :)

Being cold wouldn't bother me. They'd just need to wrap up warm. Is there a contingency plan if it rains (or snows)?

Do you have a Krispy Kreme near by ,last year my d.d had her party there. They go behind scenes to decorate their own donut, play party games ,dance/sing ,have a donut tower cake .They loved it but be prepared for a massive sugar rush!

That’s exactly what was done at the most of the parties we attended. It was done at the school hall, and the rest was bouncing castle and sometime some games run by parents. Of course it was for a little bit younger ages. And now (our classmates just turning 9) they either do smaller parties for close friends or where – it was bowling (it has number limits), or disco-entertainer instead of bouncing castle. Lucky ones with summer time birthdays still do parties in the park withbouncing castle. Not us though...:(

We are doing a cupcake for DD's 8th later this month.

They will be decorating 2 cupcakes each, using ceramic pens to colour a ceramic cupcake money box, got some scratchy cupcakes where they scrape shapes which come out coloured.

I m going to do her two cakes, one a giant cupcake, the other a piñata cupcake smash cake.

    We have invited 6 friends.
