self employed door supervisor tax

hi all
i have recently had to go self employed in my second job after a change of contractor at my venue. i have never been self employed and was wondering what sorts of things i should be keeping receipts for , tax deductibles etc paying NI etc i am employed in my main job and pay tax and NI in the usual way:question:
any help appreciated

Keep everything from haircut receipts to your black boots receipt all your outfit including black socks anything you buy 4 the role of yr job ,your petrol receipts ,parking tickets, even hair gel ,earpiece list can go on ,one of my boys even put in for black socks cos they where thermal for the winter and they are £6 and a must in are kind of job lol .
I even put in for my hair thats £50 every 6 weeks as one has to look there best lol ,get a good bookkeeper and yr get most of it back .hope this helps xxxxxAs its a second job yr pay loads of tax , i earn't more than I did in my day job when I first started the doors ,we swopped it around and put down the doors as my main job for a while but yr bookkeeper should advice you on that .with in 6 month I gave up my day job and only do the doors now and I love it and instead of working full time and all week Now i
just work 3 nights and get a good weeks wage xxxxxxxxx0 -
Have you registered as a sole trader? Are you paying Class 2 National Insurance?
Have you been through the relevant parts of https://www.businesslink.co.uk?

I do not understand how a door supervisor could be self-employed at all. What tools do you provide? Could you substitute another worker? Can you choose your own hours?0

I agree with Cook_County, doesn't sound self-employed to me.
It's not up to your employer to dictate whether you are, it is up to HMRC.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Yes I do choose my hours and can provide a substitute in the event that if I agree to work a job and cannot. I provide a skilled service.i have two beautiful baby boys now
