Reverb echo on pc's sound

My pc has developed a reverb echo on the sound. I have not changed it at all it but it occurred after I was looking at a short video on Youtube earlier. I think the sound properties must have been captured by something and needs resetting. But I have changed all the ones I can find and it has not fixed it.
I have looked around the net andall the instructions on how to fix this sort of problem do not correspond to the functions available on my mPC. I have a Dell Vostro with Realtek card running Win7. Can anyone suggest how to fix it?

It sounds like you microphone boost has got turned up. If you right click the speaker icon in bottom right and choose recording devices. When you get net box, click the mic and choose properties. Then look for levels and turn down the mic boost.0

There is no mic boost option on recording/microphone/properties only general, drivers and details tabs and none have a mic boost option?0

Another vote for what closed said - sound effects seem to be set. Go to Control panel - Hardware and Sound - Realtek HD Audio Manager. Then click on the 2nd tab, Sound Effects, and make sure Environment is set to None0

Check your mixer settings, if you have a "stereo mixer" slider showing, make sure that is set down to zero0
