That's clever, so she's prepping and putting the raw ingredients in bags for freezing for each recipe, not actually cooking them all? So will it all go in the slow cooker frozen or defrosted?

I like the idea of assembling the ing raw rather than cooking in batches but the recipes themselves seem uninspiring and wondering how things like courgette freeze then spend hours in a sc. I try not to eat the same thing more than once a month so it wouldn't suit us to do in bulk but can see the appeal of chucking some marinades/ sauces etc in before freezing the meat

  • I've been having a bit of a look around the Internet and the below recipes do sound a little more enticing and flavoursome:

Its a great idea, would be ideal for those out of the house for hours each day.

I do mine in smaller steps, i.e I make a batch of roasted veg and tomato sauce up and freeze it in portions, I bag fresh peppers and cooked pulses in portion sizes and raw and cooked meat gets bagged in portions too. That way I can mix and match and add extras that need using up too.

Mine is more a building block freezer than a complete meal.

I learn so much here...I need another small freezer or my freezer needs to be cleared out, batch cook more and freeze items in uniform containers with dates and perhaps a sticker of what is in each box...and do more planning. Or having looked at the site, freezer look a great option.

Oh I love this, and I think this is a great idea. Will have to have a think about how I can work it with the kind of meals I do not only in a SC, but also using a wok. Always looking for ways to save spending so much time in the kitchen cooking.
2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.

Pops, don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think you need another freezer ;)... I love the idea of having the building blocks ready in the right amounts for the household (so, for my sister, she'd need enough for a family of 7, while my brother or brother in law would need single person amounts), so you can go to the freezer and grab the ready saut!ed onions, a bag of kidney beans, some tomato sauce, add some mince/vegemince/tvp mince (from cupboard) and voilà! - chilli is produced with little effort at the time :)

Ok, had a look at the links now :-) I started reading the first link, then the background patterns came up on the page and I just couldn't read it anymore, but it sounds like a good idea, doing the buying and prep in 1 day, then being able to just grab the ingredient bag and go! The second link was fun, but for me too chicken based lol as we are vegetarians.

Hmm, my hours at work have reduced, so I now have 1 day off a week - I think I need to put my day off to better use by planning and prepping the meals for the rest of the week, at least.

I have a couple of woks(still to use but were on offer and fancied one)and I have a couple of spare frying pans;)

That makes sense to me and no offence taken:)I think I coukd do something similar but do not need to do such quantities and might be able to do more variety and then as you say you just switch things around and it all there.

I've done similar to this, but not so much in one day. It works OK and courgettes stand up to the abuse as long as you don't mind them mushy in a stew - they won't do for al dente LOL. I'm feeling inspired to try an equivalent with my dehydrated veg as well.
