Redundancy query

Myself and 30 other staff have been issued with our 90 days notice as our employer has ceased trading where we work.
The firm does have other sites in operation but no vacancies at the moment for redeployment.
We are all due to finish 31/5/07.
I have now been looking around for another job but my manager has suggested to me that come 31/5/07 I may have this end date extended for me to work casully/temporary doing another job elswhere for a couple of months only.
As far as I can see i am the only one that this has been suggested to.
Part of me out of loyaty wants to do this but the other part wants to put an end to the uncertainty and worry involved in a redundancy situation and move on.
My question is once you have been given in writing your 90 days notice and your contracted job has disappeared can your empoyer the extend the notice period to have you do a fill in job for a couple of months which has no future.
Any advice would be appreciated

If your job is redundant the employer has a duty to offer you a reasonable alternative. If the alternative isn't reasonable you can refuse it and the the redundancy payment. Case law dictates that a temporary job is not deemed to be a reasonable alternative because of it temporary status."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." i have a query about redundancy.
a mate of mine who works in the uk under a permit since about 1995 was made redundant and due to a technicality the company wouldnt pay him his redundancy...refused to pay.
can they do this? he paid his taxes like us all and worked hard for them.
if he cant get it can the government pay it.0
