Wescot Credit Services say he owes thousands! Help please!

Hello,
This is my first post on here so I hope I've posted correctly!
My husband has received a letter from Wescot Credit Services saying he owes a massive £27 k!
He has no idea what it can be for and thinks it must be a mistake ... but I've done some research online and I'm not sure they'd send it if it wasn't true.
The letter says that they know he's still a resident at our home address - but we haven't missed any mortgage/loan payments ever.
He's tried to call them but can't get through.
I'm VERY worried so if anyone can please let me know anything about this company ... and if it could be a mistake I'd be very grateful!
We can hardly afford to pay anyone £27 never mind £27,000!
Thank you

You would be surprised.
Sounds like a case of a "mistrace". i.e. someone else's debt that they have mistakenly got his name/address for.
Prove it letter here --> https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247
May also be worth checking his credit files if it's not his. Not because it might show that is wrong, but he could have had incorrect info put on his credit file by this company by mistake if they think the debt is his.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi, I'm no expert and someone will be along whocan help. But yes they would send it if it wasnt true, DCA's sometimes 'fish' to see what replies they get.
Dont forget they have to prove you owe the money. Dont pay anything.

Please take Fermi's advice. DCA's are well known for "fishing". Above all, try not to worry.0

Do not worry, unless they can produce proof of a standard that a court would accept they can do nothing. As soon as they receive the prove it letter suggested by fermi then they are obliged to suspend all collection activity until they produce such proof.
Regardless of the outcome you should consider asking for compensation for the worry caused, and if they refuse then follow the FOS's complaints process.0
