Debt-free wannabe to Debt-free I be

April 2010 I was 13k in debt and with the joy of covering the cost of selling a house that was in negative equity after splitting up with my boyfriend. Much of the debt was shared but I was left paying it all off (boy will I never get my self in that situation again!!)

Well 2.5 years later, this morning I have just paid off the last £500 off my remaining credit card and am now truely in the black!! I'm soooooo happy!!! :j:j:j:j:j

I have worked hard, working a full time job and then another half time job for the last year and not going on a proper holiday since 2007 but it has been worth it. To finally say that I am debt free is the most amazing feeling in the world.

To all those out their struggling with their debt, please just keep going, little by little you will get there!!! Some months it felt like I was never going to get there, but don't let it get you down. There is light at the end of the tunnel if you budget, work hard and are consistent in paying off the debt and not spending more than you can afford. Good luck to you all!!!

  • Thank you!!
I think a holiday is in order, but I am going to have to be very careful for the next few months as I'm only just in the black. I can't go crazy as I don't actually have any savings yet.

My house mate moved to Australia in April and I'm hoping to go and visit her December 2013. That's going to be a big expense so need to start saving!! Can't wait!!!

    Debt-free and Proud!
Well done! I too have just become debt-free after 7 years and paying off over £120,000 - just before my 60th birthday and retirement. Not sure how I feel yet - shocked and can hardly believe it.

My advice? Try not to worry - being in debt isn't a crime, it doesn't make you a bad person and it is survivable. I didn't follow my own advice a lot of the time - I worried myself sick especially at the beginning and at the end.
