We've lagged our condensing pipe too. Apparently whether or not they need to be lagged is down to how much of the pipe is exposed outside, the angle and other things which I simply don't understand! But we've lagged it anyway with that simple grey foam piping. You just need to get the right size to fit the diameter of your condensing pipe. If in doubt it's something that's useful to speak to your plumber about :)

Year before last our condensing pipe froze, which meant no boiler for central heating or water until we'd gotten it thawed, then thawed the little tank inside the boiler which feeds that pipe. I boxed the pipe in and filled the box with rockwool insulation (spare from doing the loft). Despite temperatures dropping several degrees a few days later the problem didn't reoccur.
Thawing the tank was achieved by using an incandescent light bulb clipped under the tank for about 24 hours.
Prevention is definitely better than cure, since the cure meant we were without central heating or tap hot water for 48 hours (thankfully we had alternate forms of heating)

I have dark brown rattan blinds, think I could line them with brown fleece?
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

I have done this in the past, I assume you mean those roll up rattan blinds? If so, I put the fleece on the room side (not the window side, IYSWIM), and it worked OK. The only thing is it made the rolled up blind quite bulky and didn't look overly stylish (!), but it definitely made the freezing cold room a bit warmer.

    Good luck.

I'm doing exactly the same this weekend. My OH is away for the weekend so I can haul everything out and do a proper stock take :D

How did you know which sized foam stuff to buy? The condensing pipe on my boiler is about 3m long and a shallow angle so needs covering but I have no idea which size to buy as they all look the same to me. :o

I need to do a stock take. The freezer is running low. I have plenty of tins in though. I have used some grit, the very steep drive has been slippy this week but we have plenty in so that should last.
Take care everyone, the forecast for us is widespread frost and freezing fog.
