Hi All,
I'm also an avid lurker... but wondering if anyone can help me.
I was planning on putting a door curtain up on my back door but over the summer I had a cat flap fitted (doh!) I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do? Ie will a 3/4 curtain still be better then nothing... should I cut a little hole out (this does seem a little silly but thought i'd throw it out there...)
Any help appreciated! No longer Debt free

Last night I woke 4 or 5 times as it was so cold, I have duvet and covers and an eiderdown but the whole house was just icy. I slept in my jammies and my woollen dressing gown but still it was cold. I was wondering if anyone has an electric blanket and if they are economical??? I am a little worried about being frazzled but I am sure they wouldn't be sold if they weren't safe. not sure how MSE they are though. I cant seem to get warm in this big house, its just me roaming around.
I have a hot water bottle but at 2 am finding it with my feet , it was stone cold :rotfl:
I have three hot water bottles (with fleece covers) at the moment. I make sure I fill them quite full (they get fuller through the winter, and sometimes I go up to five...).
I tend to have one by my feet, one behind my back and one in front of me. If it gets too hot I shove them under the duvet next to me, and then retrieve them if it cools down. If I reject more than one, I pile them up so they keep each other warm!
So firstly, I'd say try filling them a bit more, and secondly try having more.
It's also worth seeing whether wearing a hat helps... when I lived in a caravan I generally wore a fleece hoody and a hat (as well as thermals, PJs, socks etc).0 -
Everything greenbee just said
a hat and socks make a huge difference!
Keep the hot water next to you, and you'll keep each other warm lol:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
It may sound silly but i have one of the pregnancy long pillows that i have laying behind me as if partner is in bed with me. It makes me feel warmer and stops any drafts - told you i was silly!Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

If you don't use the door often maybe try a cat porch, cardboard box one side with a hole same as the flap and secure to door with some tape/velcro exit hole cover with a tea-towel or lighter fabric it will cut the draft and allow you to hang a full size curtain draped around the box, you may need to educated with a few treats but they will soon get used to it.0 -
Another vote for socks and hat in bed, used to hate camping because I would wake in the night soooo cold, but wearing a fleece hat, socks and jumper really helpedPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Hi, I have 2 single electric blankets and although one is on my bed, the other one spends the late Autumn and all of Winter on the sofa, underneath a single quilt! That way, when I have finally finished my chores and marking (I am a teacher), I can relax on the sofa, in front of the tv, with a nice warm bottom and a quilt over me. Before I get to that stage, I often wear a poncho, made by cutting a small cross in the middle of an ordinary fleecy blanket! Looks odd but is lovely and cosy, while still giving me the freedom to move about and is easily removed if anybody knocks at the door!!

I have an electric blanket and I have now bought the kids one too! They are only 7yrs but are sensible and elec blankets are so safe now. They are only allowed to switch them on to warm up the beds and have to turn it off as soon as they get in but wow, it really helps them go to sleep quick!
I like a cold bedroom so an elec blanket is perfect for me
Mine isn't on my bed yet but it soon will be!0 -

I do the exact same thing with mine. Perfect for keeping out the draft, and keeping hubby on his side of the bed!0
