Council tax arrears Scotland

Hi Everyone I could really do with some help to cut a long story short my husband has had a pay cut of £600 a month for the last few years and we are struggling with council tax debt we owe around £3000 I contacted the Council to try and come to an arrangement and showed them our income and expenditure after bills we are left with £150 per month we offered £60 and they have said that they will accept no less than £250 a month I just dont know what to do we cannot afford this and I am worried if I dont agree to this they will just arrest our wages should I go to court and get a time to pay order ? any advice would be great thanks

I worked for a Scottish council for a while a few years ago in the Council Tax department. As far as I know you won't be able to apply through the courts for a time to pay order - in the same way you couldn't with a English/Welsh council.

You said you're left with £150 per month and offered £60 per month, I assume that is after paying your ongoing Council Tax. What are you doing with the remaining £90?
