Signed off JSA because work program made me feel suicidaul

I think i ve just shot myself in the foot ( not literally ) I feel fine now.
I was put with a highly pugnacious employment adviser ( i ve had abuse from men in the past) ,he practically shouted at me for having my head down ( i m a bit underweight and take anti depressants so i m quite tired looking), i walked out shaking and didnt return to the building because i felt faint afterwards , He then sent me emails saying he doubts my right of entitlement . i felt so sick i , i started having chest pains and shaking. I went and signed of JSA the next day in panic, and wrote in the book that is because ive been treated unfairly. He wanted to see me for 6 days in a row afterwards.. i could not cope with that. I sent an email to the team leader, who i think has done nothing.

But i signed all there documents so that means i am with them for 2 full years whether i like it or not? i desperately want to change providers,i thought they would help me not make me feel worse.
I m really hoping to get an xmas temp job, but i m guessing i ve not done the right thing signing off have i . ( they will probably try to set me up.
i live with my mum who is supportive, any advice? help D:

  • Yes make a new claim for JSA...ASAP sign back on again and discuss with a Personal Advisor at the Job Centre the issues you have had and i am guessing here slightly but the 2 years you are referring too is this an Employment Provider?Working Links/Ingeus types if so you should not have signed off, there should be a complaints procedure in place get help and use it,as you won't get out of going to a Provider, but recieving no income is not an option or else go see your doctor,i did the same thing once and it cost me a lot i feel phyically sick going to and fro my provider one man was very hard on me and now i hate going near the place, but until a job comes along i have to attend, hope your feeling better now.Violet

If your hoping to get an xmas job then id get your skates on adn apply otherwise they wil be taken up. S et yourself a target to apply for say 5/6 this week. Should have made a complaint about the treatment.
  • thanks :( yes, its the work programm thing. i really feel too physically sick to go back there. the idea scares the hell out of me. i dont think i can sign back on at the job center. i can't handel being told off for this. the place have probably already written a sanction on me for not attending. i don't want to go through with it its too much. rather be homeless right now.

Depends where your looking, i know sainsbury's jobs are online and I believe asda temp jobs are as well. Boots, tesco and argos im not sure about but no harm in checking the websites.

There are others but those are a few examples.
  • I'm sorry you've been having a tough time but if you don't complain the system will never change.

As for xmas temp jobs. Get a really good customer service focused CV printed out. Get to the local shopping area and ask in every single one with a big smile on your face if they are hiring Christmas temps, if yes ask them if you can hand a CV in then and there and let them know your available immediately and am happy to work all/any hours. Don't make it sound like your desperate but make it sound like your really keen to help out as much as possible during the busy season.

If they tell you that you have to apply online then jot the name of the store down on a note pad, thank them and leave. A lot of shops don't advertise Christmas temp positions as they tend to get enough to applications without having to spend the money to do so.

    Good Luck!

    AfraidLady,

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and smile.

Have you tried a temping agency? Maybe get some temping work to break yourself out of a rut for now.

I agree with the advice above on how to handle the Jobcentre.

The worse thing you can do is give up...and don't ever let any professional person intimidate you, they are paid by the government to HELP you, so in fact they work for you!

Get yourself along to the Doctor and explain how you this has made you feel, get him to do a sick note for you.

Get along to the CAB, and explain what is happening and ask for help to negotiate the complaints procedure and what your rights are now you have signed off and how to get your benefits back.

Keep applying for jobs and keep records to show you are applying.

See if there are any women's confidence building classes in you area.

if you can't find work do some volunteering even a few hours in a charity shop will make a difference.

    Good luck.

  • thanks, not thought about going to CAB. yeh i ve heard back from a volunteer place today :)
I agree, they shouldn't employ anyone who will make people feel like that. Its all about targets , doesn't matter how your treated. I think some of them were bullies at school .
