what is the point to work hard when under bankruptcy and IPA?

That to me is like blaming Asda/Sainsburys/Morrisons/Tesco for selling Chocolate/cakes/crisps and making you fat.
You must of heard in the news, many times over the years of the supermarkets being blamed for selling too many BOGOF offers on sweets and chocolate, ready meals and not to mention cheap multipacks of beer...so yes it is the same as supermarkets playing to peoples weaknesses and their financial situation.0 -

Dear oh dear, can`t anyone take responsibility for their actions without trying to pass the blame?:pB&SC No. 298

Why not make bankruptcy even better, you go bankrupt one day and get discharged the next.
You are OK you didn't get an IPA because you didn't want to pay anything back, but because of your mentality of I am all right jack. those going br in future years may not have it so easy. If no IPA's are given how is the service going to run?
I believe everyone should get a 3yr IPA from the moment you go br, and if when you have a surplus you start paying then.
Brilliant post Kep, not often I agree with you but this post is spot on well done:T:T:T:T:T:pB&SC No. 298

I always find IPA threads interesting, because I'm looking at it from the Scottish point of view.
The 'new' IPA rules for England and Wales - the ones which allow for 100% of surplus income to go into an IPA - are about a year old now. So, not really so 'new'.
I remember posting at the time the changes were coming into effect. For me, the idea that an IPA could be based on the full surplus income wasn't surprising. That's how it had always been in Scotland.
Trustees might not take the full surplus. But they could do so. And some did.
Bankruptcy fees in Scotland are lower than the England/Wales equivalents. The idea seems to be that the fees will cover the cost of the very straightforward cases - such as the Low Income Low Asset ones. Not quite the equivalent of DROs, but similar.
In cases where there is no IPA, and no realisation of assets, but the costs are greater than the bankruptcy fee, then the taxpayer picks up the bill. I guess that it's the same in England and Wales?
If someone genuinely 'can't pay', that's one thing. If they could pay, but make every posible effort to avoid paying, why should the taxpayer foot the bill?0 -
Had my interview on friday and got given an IPA for £90 per month at the moment and I wes honest to tell the OR that there might be a chance I will earn more on overtime and she said no need to tell her that how much I earn month-by-month but if over three months period I continually having overtime I should let her know and it need to be re-calculated again.
She was actually very nice over the phone and I put down £1300 I&E over my £1344 pay but she said some of my expenditure was over the guild line but some of which I should put down but didn't so she helped me to move around the numbers and I was given £1254 each to live on which to be fair I was happy with it, it was over £46 under the number I put down.
So, here I am 3 years of hardship coming to my way.
HOWEVER, during the conversation I found out something about IPA but just in case I misheard it, I would like to bring it up in here.
I think the OR said although I was given IPA for 3 yrs but if I lost my job before my bankruptcy is discharged, the IPA will be stopped/suspended right away and if I can't another job before I was discharged and once I was discharged they can't restart the IPA again even I find a job after, is that correctly?
If that is the case what stopping me to lose my job then find a new one once I am discharged, so I only on IPA let say for 9 months instead of 3 yrs?0 -

I've never heard that before, as far as I know they can give an IPA anytime whilst undischarged.0 -
Kingdan, no that's not correct I think you misunderstood. If you lose your job you stop paying towards your IPA and the months when you have no employment income still count towards your IPA. However anytime you regain employment your IPA would be reassessed and any surplus would be paid for the remaining months up to the 36. So if you were out of work for 12 months once your IPA has been agreed you would only pay 24 months rather than 36."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. Please could we respect other people's rights to an opinion on this thread (which is obviously a 'hot' topic) and not make personal remarks about people's grammar and spelling skills. None of us have any knowledge of a person's background, be that education, culture or disability and it really is irrelevant to the subject. Thanks."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. These "new" rules that people refer to, are actually 2 years old in December, so to call them "new" is rather misleading to new posters.:pB&SC No. 298
