End in sight, good news :):)

Well another payday, another £1k paid off the credit cards :)

I started this journey last April with approx £14k of debt on CCs. I've tried to pay between £500-£100 most months to get debts cleared. It's been a difficult ride as i haven't bought myself much in the way of clothes/makeup etc and have cut back on what i spend. I have now and again HAD to put something onto the cards such as a new heater in house but on the whole i'm down to BELOW £3K!!! The end is in sight and all debts will be paid off for Xmas. I actually opened a Cash ISA last week and put £50 in this morning - it's a start :)

The other great news is that we didn't want to start a family whilst i had this debt, so we started trying 2 months ago as thought would take a while and i'm 6 weeks pregnant :) We are absolutly delighted esp as i know my debts will be cleared and i can save £5-£6k into our baby fund by next May :):) Keep going everyone, it's worth it :):)

  • Thank you and yes :):) At the grand age of 34 (hubbie 29) we decided once debts paid we'd give it a whirl :):) Feels like a fresh start knowing all debts will be gone and i can 'safely' go onto SMP without worrying how to pay our bills as we'll have savings tucked away for the first :) xx
  • Yay Lisa,

That's great news - well done. Am sure it's been hard work but definitely very much worth it.

Hope to get our debts down to nothing or almost nothing before we start TTC too in a few months and then we can get some funds behind us to support maternity leave when the times comes...

Best of luck for getting rid of the last little bit of debt before Christmas and hope you have a great pregnancy.

  • Thanks a mill Gelly :) I think when people really want to get out of debt most will succeed, the hardest part is not buying things that aren't required but wanted. Eg, last week we were goign to buy a new laptop and Ipad but once found out we were pregnant i said nope we need the money instead of the baby! Prioties have to change.

It would be great is these employers gave some sort of maternity package but unfortunately we only get 6wks @ 90% then straight onto SMP so have to save! good luck yourself :):) xx
