My OH is being hammered for Tax on his company car.
Would he be better off leasing and accepting a milage allowance from his comany- he does 40,000 miles a year on company business?

Possibly, but it depends on many factors and you would need to run the numbers, taking into account the value of the car, CO2 emissions of the car, cost of leasing an equivalent vehicle, whether free fuel is provided etc.
If you can post up these details someone can run some numbers for you.
Bear in mind that the company car benefit percentages are going up and up over the next few years!0
