Cant get mortgage

Hi,

Been a while since my last post.
We applied for a mortgage last year in August and even put in an offer on a house that got accepted unfortunately we didn't get the mortgage which i later found out was due to late payments on a credit card.
The credit card was paid off and closed so i thought around October 2009, i was told my the call centre that there was no more payments to make on the account and it was closed. What he didn't explain was the interest payments still to come. For the next three months i stupidly threw the letters in the bin(i know silly thing to do). it wasn't until the 4th month i opened one called them up and paid the amount which then showed a 1 2 and a 3 on my report. somehow and i cannot remember why the same thing happened, ending in a 1 & 2.
What do you think my chances are of getting any of these removed and when will these disappear from my report? looks like no mortgage as we only have 10% at present still.

You dont say how long ago they were. 10% deposit mortgages can be difficult at the best of times.

I think it MAY be possible, if you could get to a 15% deposit im pretty confident it could be easy enough to obtain a mortgage.

  • I paid the account off in 2009 October, my first late payment was the following month(november) and the following 2 months after this, taking me into January giving me a 1late 2late and a 3late on my report. Paid all this off and same thing happened two more months causing another 1late and a 2late taking me into April i think when i finally cleared it all and card account was finally closed.
We was offered a 15% by one lender but could not get the funds, at this point i was totally down in the dumps as i had worked myself into the floor saving for the last 5 years. We have not really saved any more since but room is becoming a problem with two kids and its either rent at a lot higher cost as we get a very good deal at present or try again for a mortgage, which i would prefer.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I think your only hope of buying is the 15% deposit. There is a bloke on here who does a lot of adverse credit mortgages, he may be able to help more.

Evening all - I would think you are mortgageable now, subject to credit reports.

Have you been running any loans, credit cards, overdrafts, HP since the issues in 2009 and did they officially default you - this will be visible on your credit file.

  • No loans other than two vans on limited company business loans. i had an overdraft for £1500 which i paid off also in 2009 October same time as my credit card. i had some credit on a car which was finalised in Feb off this year i think i have one late (1) showing on this. but at present since Feb of this year nothing personally on finance, overdrafts and loans .
My credit rating when we applied for the mortgage was 670 i think from Experian it is now 972.
i was never very good at paying my credit card as i had no standing order so several lates before the main problems occurred. The interest on my card which caused the problems started off at £12 and the highest it went was £50 something. Easy to see it could of been a mistake on my behalf really. But i part blame Barclays for giving me false info on any more to pay after i paid off the £2500 in full.
i hope this helps and thank you for your response.

No worries, is there a default date on the card from 2009.

If no default showing then I would be confident, if there is then there may be a solution but depends upon the remaining details.
