Hi
I am trying to type a CV for my husband who was made redundant a couple of weeks ago. When he came out of the Navy he started working as a driver doing multi-drops etc. The company he started work for in 1993, was bought out by another company in 2003 then the same thing happened in 2010. (so three different employers all in the same depot etc and no break in employment and has more or less done the same job with them all).
I`m really stuck as to how to show this on his CV do we put the dated 1993 to present and list the companies with the dates and then do one paragraph of his experience - or do we list each one and more or less duplicate the experience?
I hope this makes sence, but I`m getting myself so confused and despite looking at numerous templates etc of how to set all this out seem to be going round in circles.
Any expert advice or help would be really great. Many thanks.

Think Aryndeneth's advice below is better (I had not realised the employment was all at the same place... naughty me for only skim reading)"It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0 -
Put it as something along the lines of:
Employment
1993 - 2012 Present Company Name
(Formerly known as XYZ 2003-2010)
(Formerly known as ABC 1993-2003)
Then list duties/skills/experience as appropriate
Shows continuous service and that changes were to the company, not the employment.
Also, take a look at these, might help?

The "from scratch" one is more basic than you need given your husband's experience, but it's got some good hints and tips in it, if you haven't had to do a CV for a while.0 -
Thank you both for taking the time to reply. Its not easy is it? I must have been so lucky as in 54 years have never needed a CV, then at 59 himself is made redundant!
Just wondering when I finish it if its ok to post it on here for any comments or tweeks or re-writing if needed.
I`m off to work now but will look at those links later and have another go and adding to what I have done. Aryndeneth thats a really good way to word the employment thanks I had put the skills above the employment but will change them round.
Thanks again I`m very grateful0 -
I`ve had another go.. please be gentle with me: Just wondering if anyone of you experts on cv`s might have time to cast your eye over the following. I`m not sure if I`m waffling or have too much especially in the duties and experience.... is the opening paragraph ok..?
I have put personal details at the top..name in bigger print than the rest, address, phone no and email.
After the duties and experience I have listed his employers then briefly the hight school he went to
Not sure if its necessary to put interests..he likes gardening, travel, walking the dog!!
Also wondering if he needs to put ...currently looking for a suitable driver postion on it or leave that to the covering letter?
Many thanks, I`m really grateful for any pointers.

I think this is excellent. I have made a few suggested changes, most of which are simply correcting your spacebar omissions!
Profile:
An experienced, hardworking, reliable and adaptable driver with 19 years` experience of driving within a multi drop and multi collection role. I am flexible, willing to work long hours, and would be willing to work shifts.

· Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
· Able to pass security checks and procedures (maybe ‘able to pass high level security clearance’ if this is true)
· Driving Royal Navy Exhibition Trailer to shows around the UKEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
I think you've made a really good start! Got a couple of tips but no time at the mo. Will post properly later, just didn't want you to think you were being ignored

Yes, you would put it down as 1993 - Present. Not only will this look better for any prospective employer, but it will also show that he is loyal and has been with the same firm for approximately 19 years and not someone who jumps ship.Lao Tzu - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"
Derek Bok - "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"0 -
While it's good to have a full clean driver's licence, you might want to add, assuming this is true, you had no driving faults during your 19 years of work.0

Many thanks, pheww! makes me feel a lot better than I`ve not typed a lot of waffle.
All I have for the employement is dates and the names of the companies written with the advice from Aryndeneth and a one line about secondary school.
Not sure if its necessary to put interests..he likes gardening, travel, walking the dog!! should he put something?
Also wondering if he needs to put ...currently looking for a suitable driver postion on it or leave that to the covering letter?
After deciding if I need the above two points - is this enough for his CV, is it good enough to hopefully try and get him another job. He only wants to be a van driver and not a brain surgeon but not sure what type of experience / driver etc employers want. Also he is 59 might this go against him? (I`m sure they will be able to work this out from dates on the CV)
I am so grateful for everyones help and input so far...please keep the advice coming. Many thanks0 -
Aryndeneth, thanks any more advice when you get time would be wonderful.
shmeeko69 I have done the employment history like this:
2010 – present XXXXXX
address
2003 – 2010 (formerlyknown as) xxxx
address again
1997– 2003 (formerlyknown as) xxxxx
address again
Would it be better 1997 - present and then just list the companies?
1970 – 1993 H.M. Forces
denla yes his licence is point free...in the 19 years there was an odd instance of reversing into a bollard! this type of thing but these instances were very rare. Not sure what you mean by driving faults?
Thanks again everyone
