Hi All,

I have posted before (in panic mode) re a mortgage application with Nationwide.

I have checked my credit files - Experian correct

Equifax - completely wrong (linking me with a lady with different address, date of birth etc. who I dont know and her husband)

The lady has lots of credit cards / loans (no defaults and many settled) I have contacted equifax who are apparantly 'checking this out' and will respond in 28 days and remove her when they do there necessary checks. Quite frankly - anyone halfway competant could look and see whats happended and disassociate me from this lady. I am sure she would be alarmed if she knew - I know all her credit card / loan details outstanding balances / credit limits and her address and date of birth!!!!

Is it worth putting a notice of correction on Equifax and if so, how do I do this? Should I phone nationwide and ask them to note the different name and date of birth etc. when they do the credit search - (it is quite obvious its not me) .

Or should I just wait and see what happens? Also if I am rejected because of false information can I appeal and how easy and quick would this process be?

Thanks

  • Do put in a notice of correction to Equifax URL="https://www.equifax.co.uk/help"]www.equifax.co.uk/help[/URL

Mention all the instances in your credit file that are not related to you from all areas i.e. Credit Agreements, Credit Searche etc. They would take a couple of weeks (2 to 4 weeks) to correct this. Be as precise as possible so that they can easily find the resords and remove them from your file.

As for the Nationwide application, you cannot do anything until they ask you if these issues on your file. If you are going through a broker, best to tell them so that they can provide sufficient information to the lender when requested.

    Hope this helps.

I have just looked again at my Equifax Report and the Notice of Correction - says something about if there are items in the report which are fatually correct, but which you feel you have grounds to dispute.

The facts are not factually correct and can this can be proved. I have raised this with Equifax (submitted an online form explaining all the errors - which they have acknowedged by giving me a query log number and saying they aim to respond in 28 days)

I am not using a broker so thats not an option. If Nationwide notice this, would they contact me and query this or just do a 'computer says no' and reject my application.

It is all so worrying - expecially when I have been totally honest on my apllications and apparantly passed the DIP checks with flying colours. :(

  • No one can say for sure, Just keep your details ready if they ask. I would suggest that you also get a copy of the correction notice you filled in with Equifax. Only present that to Nationwide if questioned.
