I never thought the day would arrive when I would agree with anything Gordon Brown has to say, but that day has now arrived:)
I, like many other people am not sure how the economic downturn/Euro mess/ debt crisis along with the credit crunch would play out, but it is coming!!
Then we will get some painfull rebalancing that has up until now been put off.

I'm not sure there's much to disagree with.
He seems to be saying can kicking is much improved so purchasing more time but unless that time is used effectively in dealing with the fundamental problems it's time wasted.
What sort of painful rebalancing are you expecting? What if it's painful to you i.e. a stiff dose of inflation that takes chunks out of savings or a further reduction in mortgage availability.0 -
As usual, a most 'unfortunate' gaff from Brother Brown:
Gordon Brown: "Europe is enjoying a moment of calm due to the European Central Bank's plan to buy debt of eurozone countries"
BBC Headline: "Athens clashes as Greek police fire tear gas."0 -
I was wondering what had happened to him.
Probably on a nice public funded salary to go with his nice public funded pension though.0 -

well yes, he is still an MP. not that he's been to parliament more than about 3 times since losing the last election.
strange how when everyone else doesn't turn up to work they get sacked, but when a former PM doesn't turn up they continue to get paid for another 5 years!
in addition to still getting his backbenchers salary of about £60k per annum, i believe that he is also now in receipt of his prime minister's pension - which is 50% of his final salary as prime minister (about £70,000 per annum), and which is not dependent upon length of service and which kicks in when you leave office as PM, not when you retire. (although under his stewardship the rules were changed so that no new PM will receive the same).
so he's being paid £130,000 plus expenses from the public purse to do virtually nothing.
i'm sure his constituents are delighted with the service they are receiving and the value for money that he represents.0 -

I suppose if he is abroad he is less likely to fvck things up here though. So could be value for money.0 -

... which is a complete and utter injustice and it flies in the face of any rational person's sense of values and logic.
But as we learnt yesterday, he may get his come-uppance.
To be more specific. It could be that the Boy Clegg will get LibDems elected as a majority Government in 2015. In which case they may feel the need to implement policies announced this year at Brighton. In which case, Brother Brown may lose his heating allowance and bus pass in 2016!
Now how's that for justice and revenge? That will teach him!
...... er..... I think I hear a flying pig is telling me I need another G&T.0 -
He's ringing the bell at the NY Stock Exchange soon which has to be more productive than most of what he did in power.0
