Help please - curtain laundering!

Options
Hi again,

I need some advice on how to wash my curtains, I got them free :j from a hotel which is having a refurb. They are lined with a material that has a slight "rubbery" feel to them and I am concerned that when washed it may stick to itself.

They are in very good condition and I would hate to ruin them but I will not have them dry cleaned as I have a problem with the process.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Many thanks

Could you wash them on a cold wash, or maybe a handheld steam cleaner.

  • It's likely that the rubbery lining is blackout lining, hold it up to the light and see if you can see thi light through it. Shouldn't think it would be a problem on a cool wash but the curtain fabric might shrink.
  • I had some with a lining like this - it wasn't so much a lining as a finish on the back of the material - that had been given me and I washed them on a cool wash and they were fine. I don't have them anymore though as I shortened them for the window they were at and then we moved...

I had some like this too! They washed absolutley fine on a 30 degree quickwash - but, I was scared to try the tumbledryer on them as mine was rather hot!

I always hang mine up wet, and put the dehumidifier on them. We don't have a tumble dryer, or anywhere suitable to dry them!

I'd also go for a cold wash, but have no experience with this type of fabric..
