Hi all,
I was going to make pork steaks for dinner tonight and I've just noticed they have a use by date of 23rd September, would anybody still use these?
Many thanks

I would open them, rinse them under cold ruinnning water - then smell them. If they smell of anything other than fresh meat, throw them out. You could also rinse them in vinegar.0

Take them out of the packet and smell them, if in doubt chuck them out. Consider if you are prepared for the consequences if they are off!!!!0

I agree. Be guided by your nose.0

Its a good point that Pennypusher makes. Think about what is very likely to happen if they are off  You'll start to feel human sometime Thursday week
I wouldn't.0 -

I totally agree, I wouldnt care if they smelled as fresh as a daisy, just the thought of eating them knowing they were 2 days out of date would put me off. Sorry, but that's just me lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I've eaten out of date bacon for two days now. I went to the doctor today and he told me I was completely cured
Seriously, you didn't eat the pork?
I didn't even question eating bacon that had a use by date of the 18th Sept today, but felt reassured enough to eat bacon with a date of the 4th Sept after asking on here yesterday. Different things I know, as bacon is preserved to a certain extent.
At this time of year I find things tend to keep better, even in the fridge, but it's not uncommon to find things have been eaten in the wrong order in our house, so one or two days out of date is a common occurrence.0 -
Use-by dates are estimates. Obviously take the advice stated above, but if it seems fine then by all means cook it. Even if food has gone off, thorough cooking will kill all pathogenic bacteria. All that will be affected is taste, texture and general quality of the meat.0

Get something from the chippie for yourself and feed the pork to your Oh, but check the insurance is up-to-date firstLiverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
