I'm not sure this is the right place to put this post so apologises if its wrong.
I've got a long-loved black, winter coat that's a bit worse for wear, its wool and in need of a good clean. I am unsure about putting it in the washing machine, but don't want to fork out for a dry cleaners if I can aviod it
It also has oosey bits all over it, no doubt from various scarfs and jumpers from last year, any ideas how to get this off?? I have one of those lint brushes and have tried lint rollers but it doesn't seem to be strong enough to lift all the bits.
Any advise would be much appreciated

Sellotape for your 'oosey' bits - should lift them off.
Did my big black dry clean only coat on a gentle wash in a tied up pillowcase. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Carpet shampoo! Seriously, clean it with a sponge and 1001 carpet cleaning, dry it on a hanger and then give it a hoover with the round attachement.0

I have washed woollen coats in the washing maching on a wool or delicates cycle with no problem.0

thanks for all your suggestions
when I finally got round to it I tried sellotape which worked well on the ossey bits then I used the carpet shampoo trick as I already had loads- and it worked really well
also meant I could wear it the next day as it was pretty dry after the hoovering lol0 -
Would the carpet shampoo trick work on a velvet coat? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Problem with velvet is the nap, you have to be very careful to get it all going back in the correct direction or it looks a mess. I have washed velvet curtains and used a nailbrush to smooth it down but I'm not sure how well that would work on a finer velvet.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Maybe I will try it then use a clothes brush to do the nap, I have a couple of clothes brushes with different bristles. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
