Full time to part time-How to ask?

Hi,
My 62 year old friend wants to continue working for his employer but would like to go part time. Does he have any 'right' to do this or is it 100% up to the employer? (i know this seems obvious but he wants to me to ask for him, to be sure).

Yes, 100% up to the employer.
I did this when I was 60, dropped from 5 days a week to 3, bliss.
Then went down to 2 (to help the company out) cash flow problems.
They then made me redundant, that was fine because I was thinking of retiring. Again, bliss because then I left with a cheque instead of zero.
I'm female by the way so my retiring age was 60
All he can do is ask......make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

It's up to his employer but would dropping his hours effect what pension he was due? What kind of pension scheme is be on?0 -

He would get redundancy pay on the hours he would be working at the time of redundancy. That is the statutory anyway.
He may be able to negotiate before dropping to part time though but again, that would be up to the company.
Tell him to get everything in writing.
If he is say working only 3 days, the redundancy package would be worked out on that.
If he thinks that redundancy is looming it would be wise to stay on full time for now to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

CHeck the redundancy package, if statutory then this is capped at £430pw so if he erans more than that it will only change when the pay goes below that.
Holiday will also be reduced but stay the same number of weeks.
Try to get work days not to include mondays if they normaly have Mon as a BH it reduces the flexability.0
