Dye for Baby Clothes and Blankets - Advice Please

I've been given lots of baby clothes and cellular blankets by some well meaning friends.
However, some of the white items are not so white anymore.
I am keen to dye the blankets purple and the clothes in brighter 'girl' colours.
I would appreciate some advice on what dye to use that is most suitable for baby items.
Many thanks for all your help!

I've never heard of a dye that is suitable or unsuitable for baby items, but different dyes work differently on different fabrics.
Personally I have always had good results with Dylon & it's fairly widely available (I get mine in Wilkos). If you are dying cotton you'll be fine, but polyesters & other synthetics don't absorb the dye in the same way so you'll prob end up with pastel shades not brights unless you can find a specific synthetics dye

Thank-you for your reply. I think most of the items are cotton so I should be ok.
    Thanks again!
  • I did muslins and a quite a few baby clothes with blue dylon with no adverse effects... in fact 3.5 years later the muslins are still blue and in use as DS can't sleep without one.

That's useful to know. Thanks Flipper
  • I know of quite a few people who have dyed nappies (washable ones) with the Dylon that you use in the machine and they have had great success with it. The colour works well, washes well and hasn't caused any reactions from the babies!
