declaring 'off the road'

Options
Hi everyone

I have recently been in an accident which was not my fault. I'm looking at getting a new car but until the car insurance company establishes blame my no claims bonus has been locked which means the insurance quotes for my new car have been very high. I am 100% confident that I will get a non fault claim as is my insurance company. So heres the question......is it legal for me to buy a new car then declare it as 'off the road' until the insurance claim is dealt with? I realise i'd get a refund if i just got the insurance but to be honest i cant afford the amount of money they are asking for and on principle I don't see why i should as the accident wasnt my fault!

Thanks....

    Yes.

However you don't need your NCD till you have to renew your current policy (assuming it is still running), so maybe you can change over the cars on your policy and SORN your other car until the policy expires?
  • Has the current policy expired? How will you get your new car home?

Dont get stopped on the way home from buying a new car. Getting it out of the pound can be a costly nightmare.
