CCJ help

My friend has just rang me in a panic, she has received a county court judgement in the post this morning and doesn't know what to do because she can't afford to pay it. She has never received anything from the court before and she was unaware the company were going to get a ccj against her. She has been ordered to pay the full amount immediately but she is in no position to to so because she's not working and on benefits. She accepts that she owes the money and wants to pay it but just can't pay it all at once, is there some way she can pay it in installments?

Thanks for your help.

Could she try calling the court and explain she wasn't able to submit a defence because she wasn't informed she was being taken to court??

She SHOULD contact the court immediately. If she did not receive any summons then the case could be 'set aside'.
If, as you say, she has no argument with the actual debt, but can only pay by instalments, then there should be a space on the CCJ for her to make an offer.
