I am new here!! I was diagnosed with depression today, and have been signed off from work for a month. My problem is I have been off from work for 2 weeks and need a GP to certify my sickness. The GP said they could not back date my fit note, I tried explaining to the GP that its been really difficult for me to even sick help, my employers want this fit note and I don't know what to do.

They need a note to cover last week. In between self certification and now.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

The OP wants a sick note for the two weeks she has already been off work.Sorry OP but you should have gone to the doctors earlier he cannot diagnose until you see him.0 -
Sorry to hear this
Can you please clarify, does the cert from your GP start from today, leaving a gap of two weeks?
You can self-certify for the first one week, so that would leave a gap of just one week
Does your employer have an occupational health advisor or a welfare officer you could speak to?You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

Ah sorry - misread the OP. But I agree. The GP shouldn't back date sick notes.0 -

Thanks, I know I should have seen the GP but I can't explain how I was feeling, I was really confused and extremely low in mood. It took a lot to actually go and see the GP. I am very withdrawn at work and just keep to myself and they see it as me being snobbish (i have been there for only a few months) I'm just confused0
