KitchenAid

Options
Hello,

I'd like to buy an Apple Green kitchenaid for my mum's christmas present.

I tried to buy one of Debenhams when they had their sale on earlier this month so got nearly 20% discount as they had 10% off in the sale and I got another 10% off with a discount code on this forum so it was £347 inc postage.

Unfortunately they cancelled my order without telling me and when I called customer services to find out where my order was they said it was because they'd run out of stock and they won't honour the original price.!

One snotty email later, I received a reply from another cutstomer service representative who said there was a 'security issue' with my card and they were 'sorry for any inconvenience caused'. I don't believe this as I had used my card about 10 mins earlier and it worked fine!! Bad customer service!

Anyway...rant over....does anyone know where I can get it for anywhere near the purchase price I was supposed to get it from Debenhams for?

Thanks for all your help in advance :o x

Harts of Stur do one for £399, I think that includes postage ( not as cheap as Debenhams though but one of the better deals), they will also price match if you can find one cheaper but not to ebay. Their customer service is excellent as well. They refunded the difference in price once when they reduced the price a few days after I had ordered.
  • I bought mine brand new from a supplier on ebay and I bagged it for around £320 I think. It was a little while ago but I really would give ebay a try if money saving is the order of the day.

  • Thanks for your replies....do you know if the guarantee is still valid for ebay purchases? Selfridges are selling it for £379 at the moment so I'll see if I can get a voucher code!

  • I had a lot of trouble last year trying to get a kitchen aid, they sell like hot cakes around Christmas time! After two cancelled orders from two different companies I finally managed to get one from amazon. It had been oos for a long time but I knew I wanted it so I just placed an order for when they did have stock, luckily they got stock a few days later!
I wanted a colourful one but they are over £100 more expensive and at the end of the day it is a beautiful machine no matter what colour you get!
Amazon currently have the white for £299 which is a bargain!

When I looked on ebay and contacted the seller I was told it didn't have a guarantee and I'd have needed to buy an extra warranty, that with the postage put the price up quite a bit. I can't remember who the seller was.
  • My brother in law just moved near me with his wife and we decided to buy them a Kitchenaid as I knew they wanted one. I ordered one via debenhams.com and used a 10% off voucher than they were heavily advertising throughout the site and the total was reduced from 429.00 to £386.10. Low and behold the next day I received and email entitled 'SecurityCheck' saying they had to cancel my order but couldn't not tell me why and to contact my credit card firm. I called the credit card company and they said they could see that Debenhams had reserved the money but not taken it. I called Debenhams and their customer service agent was down right rude and said he couldn't help me and advised me to order another, although he wasn't able to do that as he wasn't in sales. This seems like a con that they don't want to actually sell them below their profit margin. One for Anne Robinson?

These kitchenaid's sell for about £120 in USA. You can get them on Amazon.com rather than amazon.co.uk (unfortunately though they will not ship to the UK).

So you need to find a retailer who will and/or a friend who lives in the USA.

Just to add you will also need a converter.

Just wondered if anyone had experiences of importing one of these and how well it works when running on a converter?

Is it still possible to get them serviced/fixed in the UK?

You could well be hit for import duty and charges by Customs - I believe it often works out to about a third of the original price plus the shipping. Let alone that shipping would be likely to be very expensive. I doubt with the shipping and probability of customs and other charges you'd actually save enough to make it worthwhile.

£120 is a bit of a push. The red one is $313 on Amazon.com, which at a rate of $1.5 to the £ is £208 - then you'd need to add on sales tax in respect of whichever state it was delivered to which varies from 0% in New Hampshire to [I think] 11% in parts of California.

If you plug a US Kitchen Aid into a UK plug you immediately void your warranty. Also, there are voltage differences between the US and the UK - I considered asking someone to bring one back from me but my Dad's professional opinion (he's an engineer dealing with, amongst other things, electronics) was that a voltage converter wouldn't successfully get around this.

I'd sooner stump up the £400 and enjoy full performance and a five year warranty.
