That may be so but there is no hard and fast number to define what is reasonable in a redundancy dispute.

But it sets a standard that the company would probably use in its arguments so it's worth being aware of.
  • Hi
Thanks for the replies, not what I wanted to hear though, I thought they were trying it on. The journey is from Ruislip Middx to Bracknell Berkshire, it says just over an hour on the AA web site I added the rest to account for the rush hour.
On the up side she has found another job, 15 minuets from home.

One of the conditions when you sign on for JSA is that you will accept any job that you can get to within 90 minutes travel by public transport.
its 60 when you first sign then goes up to 90 but still if you can not get there in 60 or 90 this rules this job out

I have looked up Essex where I live to Westerham for example which is 32 miles away and it takes 2 hours each way (2 tubes, 2 trains and a bus) let alone the cost and the walk to the station etc so 32 miles is not so clear cut when compared to time taken to get there.

One hour is nothing then to be honest.

I used to drive from Milton Keynes to Bracknell in just over 90 minutes.

I used to drive from Milton Keynes to Bracknell in just over 90 minutes.

So, over three hours a day and 360 miles per week. It would need to be quite a good job to justify this long term.

Even at a modest 30p per mile that is almost £100 a week out of your take home pay.

Has it changed recently because someone who signed on for the first time last week was told he had to be prepared to travel the 90 minutes?
