On the BBC's Twitter feed: Half of JJB Sports' stores are expected to close as the company goes into administration.
Ouch. That's another one gone from Sprucefield.

Over price sporting goods anyway
Are DW sports independent of JJB now ? or are they also in trouble.
Sports Direct wanted to take over JJB but couldn't get an agreement as they only wanted to cherry pick the stores and close the rest. Hopefully Sports Direct will come in and buy up a few NI stores now to save a few jobs.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Bad News for the workers. But I found the store a little out of fashion when i was ever in.
Do you think they'll have a sale or anything?0 -
Guests on The Jeremy Kyle Show will be devastated!0

Its quite ironic, but a sign of times, that these superstores like HMV, JJB, PC World, etc, etc mercilessly destroyed small businesses in our towns, and now - sadly for the employees at least - their time has come and they cant compete with the move to internet shopping0

It all happened rather quickly in the end 2,200 poor souls cast into the wilderness only 20 stores saved by Sports Direct, 133 closed as of yesterday.
SD buys the online name, Slazenger Golf brand and the warehouse facilities.
On the NI front, 2 JJB's in our wee country will convert to SD, saving 38 jobs in Antrim and Londonderry, although I wonder which store in Londonderry ? We have a city centre one and a retail park store here. Good news for some as it will save me a trek to Strabane to get my Jeremy Kyle outfits in future
EDIT: update from BBC NI News Lisburn also to become a SD, list to close:
Among the shops closed are those in Ballymena, Bangor, Belfast, Coleraine, Craigavon, Londonderry, Newry and NewtownardsI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Were there 2 stores in Lisburn? (In Bow Street Mall, and at Sprucefield)
Wonder which one is closing?
EDIT: Ah wait, the Bow Street Mall is JD Sports, so it looks like Sprucefield's becoming an SD then.0 -
Further confirmation on the stroke city front, Strand road warehouse/ retail park type JJB to become a Sports Direct, city centre/ Richmond centre store now closed.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0

Was in Londonderry/Derry last night at 12 midnight and the store was still open. Half price sale on. People where carrying massive amounts of bags, no joking seen people with arms full of the big JJB bags. one man had bought a bike but was having problems fitting it in his sports car. lol. Sadly they would not let us in. Later seen on the TV that someone had been arrested by the police?0
