When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning guys  I hope you all had a lovely weekend :T Wow its really autumnal here! I really do like this time of year, just before the winter really sets in. Oh and I began the familiar ritual last night, him wanting to put on the heating, me insisting he put on another jumper and thermal socks first - the heating didn't go on. I may have won the battle but the war isn't over :rotfl:

Things for me today:
[STRIKE]* check banking - payday later[/STRIKE] :j need to do budget & work out cc but don't think I'll have any spare time today...
* [STRIKE]stew in the SC[/STRIKE]
* all meals from stores
* start a job appl. A friend sent it to me and it closes on 26th so need to get my skates on. Does seem like the ideal role for me :T
* NSD
* go for a walk at lunch time if its not teeming it down
* going to my first sewing group tonight - am excited and nervous at the same time!
* [STRIKE]getting friend to countersign mortgage deeds[/STRIKE] and posting off :D
* 10 mins mindfulness meditation after work
* [STRIKE]email solicitor to tell her I have a revised mortgage offer with a better deal[/STRIKE]
* call ex-display kitchen people and see if they deliver & what the cost is if they do

Hopefully the contracts will come through today

oh and I'd better actually do some work!!!

Have a great day everyone x

  • Hi all

I'm a regular lurker and less regular poster on this thread! Bit :-( as OH said I always go on about jobs that need done and I tend to relate everything back to finances and getting him to switch stuff off is boring. It came as one of many things and he doesn't criticise me much, but I'm a little :-( and wondering if this has happened to you?

    To do today:

Bring lunch & snacks to work
Bus pass (final day), maybe walk rest of week!
    drink tea/juice at work
    meal from stores tonight
2 duvets on bed now & duvet while tv watching!

Hi Oompa, sorry to hear you are a little sad about this. Erm I think its impossible not to be really stressed about finances when you are in debt and it easy for everything to revolve around reducing outgoings. I also know when I had PMT I became the MSE Police whose school of thought was a lot more stick than carrot! :o

I think having conversations about why its important. Remembering to praise the things that are being done rather than berating what hasn't (its so easy to look at life negatively, I'm trying at the end of each day to think of 3 things I am grateful for as we have a tendency to notice the bad stuff) and finding some balance where you guys have some fun and its not revolving around money.

And when I've really gone to far, I bring out the old classic (:kisses2: ;)) and remind oh how wonderful I am and how he will do anything I want :D

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for starting us DNMS, good luck with the job application & I hope you enjoy your sewing class tonight.
Ziggy - Hope you feel better soon! Hope it's nothing serious.
NTBY - I used to be able to view people's diaries but I can't see it now! I don't feel like I've lost anything but I don't feel as though I've gained either, so could be worse...congrats to you though, remember to measure yourself as well as weigh as you may put on muscle (heavier than fat) but lose inches.
Oompa - I don't have much advice unfortunately, just sympathy! I've been there & done that & to be honest some days I still get similar treatment from my DH, he's mostly on board now but still sometimes leaves lights on for example & when I call him out on it he can get in a bit of a mood with me! Just try & strike the right balance & keep up your good work. DNMS had some great advice for you already I see :)

Sorry I didn't make it on over the weekend, Saturday basically involved me getting up after a nice lie in & going over to my parents so my Dad could show me how to do an oil change, that was good but unfortunately he thinks the steering rack is on it's way out!! It's due for it's MOT very soon so will get it confirmed then...fingers crossed he's wrong as that is going to be pricey :( Yesterday was pretty much a wasted day, still fairly MSE though as I only spent money at Mr T's which was needed, & fortunately the neighbours still do not appear to be back, yay!!! :j On the downside, DH has given up on his month of no drinking (he doesn't have a problem I hasten to add, just trying to save money!!) but it was stuff already in the house so it's not too bad.

    Today's plan:-
    • Food from stores
    • Make use of free water at work
    • Make full use of the free lunch available from today's meeting, I am hoping I have filled up so much I won't need to snack this afternoon!
    • Making use of the free pedometer in the goodie bag I was given in today's meeting, also included a few other useful things so very happy with that :)
    • Stay in for my lunchbreak to avoid spending
    • Log calories using free app
    • Charge phone at work
    • Check online banking
    • Must try & do a survey or 2
    • Must declutter a bit & do some flylady as there's lots in need of doing
    • DH doing overtime this evening
    • Dinner from meal plan - Spaghetti Bolognaise from the freezer
    • Make use of TKD membership
    • Catch up on weekend thread
Have a great, MSE day everyone x

What a day: ten times the usual amount of work landed on my desk today; literally!

    Today I have:

#Downloaded latest free version of Avast! Anti-Virus.

#Eaten 11p noodles for lunch with free vending machine coffee. :coffee:

    #Used home-made rough skin scrub.

#Promised to leave work on time all week unless I'm doing overtime.

#Kept the doors shut to keep the flat warm.

    #Charged mobile away from home.

    #Checked OnePoll and Grass Roots.

#Switched off the oven and iron a few minutes before I needed to stop using them and used the 'free' heat as they were cooling down.
