    i wish!
im sick off the prices i have to pay for HP cartirdges

Instead of paying for original cartridges why don't you buy compatables - they have the same quality as originals and they hold a guarentee.

    I brought mine from https://www.mouse2house.co.uk

They are very friendly and I am very happy with price and quality.

Does anyone know if there are compatibles for a Lexmark X1180 printer?

1 thing I've found that makes cartridges last much longer is using a draft setting as default. most of the stuff the wife prints out is articles for college work etc, so draft is fine. also, use the 2 sheets per page setting on the printer. means you use way less paper too, so kinder to the environment.

Another way of saving a bit of money, not a freebie I know, but a friend of mine uses the Boots printing service for photos. he swears it works out cheaper than buying ink and photo paper all the time!!

Also, whilst you guys are mentioning about refilled cartridges, I work in the computer industry and we have no end of problems with customers who have used refilled inks and refilled toners. I have also seen HP cartridges that have a chip and date stamp in them, so can only be refilled a couple of times before they printer won't use them anymore. They do invalidate your warranty and make one hell of a mess when they go wrong. Not always a money saver in the long run.

I know there is always a huge debate about refilling cardtridges etc, so please don't flame me, I just wanted to give my 2p worth based on working in the industry...

This thread is well off topic

the boots service is a bit steep compared to the cheaper online services of similar quality. there's plenty of free trials (or just pay postage offers) also (e.g. Snapfish).

IMO you're never going to save money by printing your own photos, just your embarassment of getting "special" ones of your OH developed in Boots ;)

The refills/ replicas: I reckon (not flaming you just opinion) that after buying 3/4 full sets of refill/ replicas you cover the cost of a half decent inkjet anyway vs. official ones. I personally think the hype over "only use legit ones" is the manufacturers running scared about their monopoly...

And a nice little earner for the manufacturer as they can always turn round and say "You didn't use our cartridges so when your printer explodes all over the palce, we won't do anything about it!"

I always think that cartridges are overpriced. If the compatibles are so cheap, why are the manufacturers own so expensive?

it's absolutely insane the original manufacturers get away with it.

Imagine if you could only put Ford Petrol in your car!
