in Cutting tax
Am i right in assuming that because i am only going to be working part time (start new job tomorrow) and i most likely won't earn enough to pay tax then i obviously won't be able to claim mileage allowance back.....i will be getting 15p per mile for own car useage...plus will have to pay extra for business use.
Only asking as i think i am right, but some one told me to double check, but i see it as if you don't pay tax you cannot claim it back as never paid it in the first place!!!

You are right I am afraid. If you’ve paid no tax you can’t get a rebate.
This sort of question seems to usually come from carers so if you want to check it out do a “search this forum” on carers.0 -
you need to pay income tax in order to get tax back from mileage
the higher the rate of your tax more you get back0 -

Hello meemo38,
If in your previous employment you have paid tax then you will be able to claim tax relief back on your business mileage in this employment.
The tax calculation is based on the 2012/13 tax year as a whole so when your overall position is calculated if you have paid tax during the tax year (even though it may relate to a past employment during that tax year) then you will be able to claim tax relief for your current employment which may well result in any tax paid from your previous employment being repaid.Happy to help if required!

Thank you everyone, i thought i was right, i certainly havn't paid any tax for some time as i have been a stay at home mum, while my husband went to work, and will be working part time for the next year or 2 so still wont pay tax for a while.
Thanks again0
