what on earth are receiving blankets, sorry i know thats your question but i've never even heard of them, i suppose it's to obvious to assume they are a blanket but more then likely they are probably something totaly unrelated to blankets
have you used a search engine to find your answer? It's the thought that counts.......I think a lot!0 -

Receiving blankets:
http://www.ehow.com/about_5066094_receiving-blanket-for_.html
The uses described, are what we'd typically use muslin squares for here, but I'd say any of those small fleece baby blankets would fit the bill. HTH.
Explanation of the term:

just found this....
...a receiving blanket is typically for a newborn. The blanket can be placed around the baby for warmth and used for swaddling. It can also be thrown over a parent's shoulder while the baby is being burped or tossed on the floor so that the baby will have a clean place to be changed. Receiving blankets are typically fairly small, about 1 square yard. It's the thought that counts.......I think a lot!0 -
It seems that they are like swaddling blankets but with no hood on them if that makes sense, yeah have Googler loads of forums asking the same thing. Hahq. My friend is in Florida at the minute lucky booger so have text her but no reply so hope she gets it. They seem to be very thin blankets about 30 x 30" I'm stumped!
Not far from you then in sunny old Merthyr0 -
