I have just finished making a clootie dumpling for a neighbours 90th birthday - when I have taken it out the saucer it sits on while boiling has welded itself to the base of the pot - never had this happen in near 30 years making them - anyone any ideas of how to remove it - other than breaking it, as this is my good pressure cooker?????

No idea but if you don't get any other suggestions, I wonder if warming it up again may help remove it?0

Many thanks Krlyr, have tried that - thought if I could warm it up and lever it out with OH's big chisel - really loathe to break the plate, and cant afford to throw out the pot - it cost £60 but will do that if I have to - have turned the pot upside down too and knocked around the base with a hammer.Every days a School day!0

Long and ridiculous "make it up" shot..... I wonder if bicarb/white vinegar would loosen it? I was thinking of just putting bicarb in the bottom/round the base of the saucer, then pouring the vinegar around .... as it'll fizz... then leave for 15 minutes.
Worth a shot if you've got them in the cupboard.0 -
cheers - will try that - will heat the pot before I do it. I think if I have to break the plate it will still leave some shards welded onto the base which will mean throwing it out so any suggestions are gratefully received before I do that!Every days a School day!0

Try heating the pan and put ice in the saucer.
You need the metal pan to contract, while the saucer cools, they should come apart in a few minutesWell Behaved women seldom make history

I assume you've tried just giving it a good long soak in hot water? I find there's little that won't come off after a good soak, even if it needs a little elbow grease.
Just wondering what would be causing it to stick - if it is the ingredients a soak should do it, perhaps try bio washing powder if it is still stuck afterwards. If it is a vaccuum caused by expansion/contraction you just need to find a way to break the seal...Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
