Incorrect tax deduction

Hi,
My 17 year old son who is still at school managed to get himself a part time job working at the football matches selling the hot pies.
He works on average 5 hours a fortnight (homes games only) and gets £5.00 an hour.
His wages get paid into his bank account and he receives a payslip. He is getting income tax and National insurance deducted from this.
Surely he should not be paying Income Tax,what is the easiest way to get this fixed?

Is there a tax code on the payslip? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

0T Taxcode, and as this is his first ever job he has no previous P450

Can he complete a P46? OT means no tax allowance for some reason so perhaps it's lack of paperwork. Can you call the payroll people to ask why they have done this?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

He asked his supervisor and was told it was up to him to sort it out.
Would a call to the tax office do any good?0 -
He will automatically go on an emergency tax code. He needs to speak to his tax office for a tax code and ensure he gets the pay dept to tax him accordingly (ie no tax).Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

He can download a P46 from the HMRC website, and pass that to the payroll dept (since his supervisor seems not to know about them).Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »Can he complete a P46? Having said that, the NI is a bit surprising. If his wages are less than c. £100 pw this should NOT be deducted. Phone call to payroll sounds in order.Signature removed for peace of mind0
