Resigned and then got sacked

How would the company view this? Say if I resigned and then got the sack, would it still stand as I got sacked.

Comments

  • It doesn't really matter if you we're sacked prior to resigning or not. Your new employer will ask for a reference and they undoubtedly would state you were sacked, or would make it clear that you were about to be sacked and then resigned.

Either way, they'll comment on the time you spent with them and how it ended, regardless of if you thought you were being clever resigning before they sacked you!
  • Not all employers will enter into reason why someone is leaving, many will just say "worked here between X and Y dates in A role".

IF you are worried what a future employer might write, do you have any friends with their own companies? Maybe get one of them to write asking for a reference for a made up job......then you will have an idea of what they are likely to write....
