DH put our chicken in to roast, I took it out to serve then left to one side. Now i've just taken the rest of the meat off it for leftovers and realised DH didn't take the absorbant pad from underneath it before putting it in to cook!!
Is it ok to use the chicken leftovers tomorrow? Probably a silly question, hope its ok as we've (including a young child and baby!) have had it for lunch.

It should be fine, just peel the pad off and check the meat is properly cooked underneath.0

Good question, think we've all done something similar.
Slightly different to your question but it still concerns whether meat is cooked enough,
I've started not worrying about defrosting meat in the fridge and now zap it in the microwave and then cooking it. I kind of think if cooked correctly, long enough and piping hot it will be safe and I cannot always wait 12+ hours and often my freezer items are so frozen it can take much, much longer."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Think about it...that pad would be food quality clean when it got put there and now you've roasted it too. It's certainly not going to give you food poisoning! I might not eat the bit of skin it was in direct contact with though, just in case it tastes a bit plasticky.Val.0

It should be fine.
The heat will have cooked any bugs.I'm not that way reclined

It is normal in situations like this that TILAMS advises caution and that OP should consider the children as well as the pets. If you eat said buzzard and left overs tomorrow and never return, we shall always hold your words of wisdom in our thoughts and remember you dearly. And take from this any future guidance with care.

Thanks for the replies
Well thats the last time I let DH put the chicken in to roast :rotfl: Looking forward to a warming chicken casserole with dumplings tomorrow night!! Oh and yes it was cooked through.0 -
Now you've got me squirming, thinking of reheating chicken :rotfl:
I'd think nothing of eating the chicken that had the pad underneath though!
I usually roast my chicken upside down then turn it over halfway through so the breast stays moist.

My worry wouldn't be over food poisoning from undercooked chicken, or the cleanliness of the pads, but what the pad was made of and whether that would have leached into the chicken and the implications of that. E.g. how you're not supposed to drink from water bottles that have sat in the sun for a while because of the chemicals in the plastic.
Edit:
http://www.fsis.usda.gov/fact_sheets/Hock_Locks_and_Other_Accoutrements/index.asp"Cooking" the absorbent paper and plastic pad which can be packaged under meat in foam trays:
The absorbent pad is clearly not intended to be cooked; however, if this happens and the packaging materials remain unaltered (that is, do not melt or come apart), the cooked meat will not pose an imminent health hazard. If the packaging materials have melted or changed shape in some other way, do not use the product.0
