You can tell me how evil I am for feeding my cat Whiskas wet and Sainsburys dry if you like, but I listen to my Vet who says her teeth/gums are amazing for her age (8) and that her coat is so soft and shiny it's worthy of a mention from someone who has seen 100s if not 1000s of cats in his career!
She likes Whiskas temptations, the meaty sticks they do and Felix goodies (I thought the latter were unremarkable but she gobbled them down quickly!), not tried her with dreamies0 -
I have one dustbin (Bert) and one fuss-pot (Sal) at home. Literally, Bert will eat ANYTHING! But Sal is very choosy about the wet-food she'll eat.
We try and buy the better foods now, with the high meat content, like Applaws. And it has made a difference to their coats and their teeth so I guess it's worth it. However Sal will only eat it for a few weeks and then she'll turn her nose up and we have to buy her Sheba "junk food" for a while. They have 1 1/2 pouches a day each.
In terms of dry, they both loved Whiskas Complete. Sal would pick out the little yellow treats first tho, crafty thing she is! BUT, they've changed the recipe now and don't include the treats anymore. Probably so you'll buy them separately and spend more
For the past few months they've been eating Costco dry food and it is nutritionally excellent, and they seem to like it. £17 for 11.34kg, so cheaper than Whiskas. We mix it up with Brekkies (£1 a box B&M) and the last of the Whiskas Complete with treats in (we stocked up when we started to see the "new recipe" boxes come out!!You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
Besides the Go-Cat (masquerading as the criminally overpriced Dreamies) I feed Queenie Tesco's White Fish Fillets.
This is genuine fish, Alaskan pollock, untampered with, and it costs £1.68 for 520g, a week's supply.
I put one in a dish at bedtime and by morning it's ready to eat, raw and tasty. Queenie loves it.

At 2.32 a kilo i believe that Smilla from Zooplus is a great deal! My cats absolutely love it and their coats and teeth are amazing
They also have a wet variety although i think the dry is a better option for teeth etc. It also has a high protein count, compared to the whiskas and go cat variety.

I have tried to feed them other cheaper brands when trying to economise but it always turns into a false economy because they won't eat it and I end up throwing it, giving it away or keeping it for emergencies. I try and stock up on crunchies when the 2kg bags are £3 and the pouches are £3 a box. I try to have 2 months supply as back up in case theres no offers anywhere. We have tried almost all brands of food and treats and whiskers treats are the only ones they will eat. So the up shot is we economise but the cats don't ! Still they give us so much love and laughs that they might be spoilt but they are worth it. :j
Mine are exactly like this, will only eat Wh*skas biscuits or Wh*skas Bite n Chew/Fel*x AGAIL pouches, most other things they turn their noses up at. I haven't tried other dearer biscuits, but have tried cheaper such as G*Cat/Asd*/Tesc*s ...they don't mind Tesc*s, don't like G*Cat and can't remember re Asd* (no M*rrisons here). My Dad's g/f bought them stars (can't remember brand, think Webb*x) from H*meBargain at Christmas, and I had to hide them amongst the Wh*skas ones or they wouldn't eat them; one cat was clever though and picked them out :rotfl:GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £20.96/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. I might try this as the two that don't just eat Wh*skas and Fel*x are on Smilla tins and Bozita, but not sure what they will think of biscuits.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £20.96/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. Is your keyboard broken?
Nope:rotfl:.
I'm used to blanking out the store names in the grocery challenge, in order that they don't get bumped up in Google searches, so it's become a force of habit.GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £20.96/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. 2 of my 3 cats will eat mostly dry, the female turns her fluffy bum up at it and demands wet. She will not touch whiskas, if it's put down and the biscuits are not go-cat (she'll eat those if desperate) she'll go find carrier bags to chew through
I usually buy a mix of classic cans in jelly, the fish flavour. Sachets of felix, hi-life, aldis own - they won't touch anything "supermeat"
The two boys will eat anything but if I pour el cheapo biccies in one side of the bowl and go cat in the other side, the other side goes first and they tag team to break into the cupboard and knock over the biscuit and help themselves *sigh*
Lidls opticat bags are quite good.0 -
Our cats are on dry food almost all the time and seem to have a strong preference for Go Cat, they will just about eat Tesco own or Whiskas but it is obvious Go Cat is a favourite. When you can ususally get a 2kg bag for £4 in Tesco or Asda I don't think the price is prohibitive at all!
For wet food they will eat almost anything I think as they know it is a treat beacuse they don't get it often.0
