  • Thanks for replying. :)

I might up consider asking for more to cover living costs in that case. The £700 is a very low estimate that would cover about 3/4 of my travel costs.

If I borrowed a bit more it would make things a bit easier...

I'm still really shocked you were able to borrow that much whilst unemployed. Did they ask for any other information, such as how you would pay it back?

As I've said, my situation seems very similar to yours, maxed student overdraft, etc, and my biggest worry was showing them 3 months bank statements of the odd £20 being paid in and then quickly whittled down again. :P

I know I won't have any problems paying the loan back, save for exceptional circumstances, and should have saved up a significant lump sum by the time it would be payable. It's just convincing the bank that's the problem...

I've heard it said that those who have full time jobs (and have held them for a long period of time) are less likely to get accepted for CDL, presumably because the aim of these loans is to facilitate you to undertake a course which will increase your employability. I can't say whether or not this is actually the case but most people I know personally who have been accepted were either unemployed or working part time (because they have recently graduated from university). The only given reason that I know of for rejection is not passing the credit check; so if you're clear of defaults and ccjs you have a pretty good chance of being accepted. They didn't ask for any proof of how I would repay the loan.

If you only have 30 days to sort of payment of tuition with your university I would apply ASAP, because it can take a few weeks to process your application and sort out the paperwork. Good luck! :)

  • Thanks for all the advice. Genuinely put my mind at ease. :)

I have the application form, but I'm waiting for Natwest to send me my statements. I only get online statements, which is great for convenience and avoiding clutter but a pain in the !!!! when I need them...

Hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow. I also have to sort a grant out in the same time frame. Fun times ahead...

I don't think you have time to wait for anything, having left it so late you need to get going - I'd fill in the form and provide copies of the online statements with a note to say you will forward the peper versions when they arrive.

I thought I left things to the last minute - but even I wouldn't have left it this late.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Haha, tell me about it. I wasn't intending to do a Masters, I was planning on doing a second undergrad degree (albeit still last minute) part time and funding it myself.

The university then told me I was eligible for a conversion masters, and it's gone from there really.

I've just looked at the application for Coop rather than Barclays, and they don't want me to send any additional information. So it's going off today. :)
