Tala doughnut recipe disaster!

I have the Tala doughnut making kit-trays for normal doughnuts, two different sized ring doughnuts and syringe.

Just tried a second batch after the first batch disaster and I'm not sure what's going wrong, surely it's not just a carp recipe?

Recipe is:

225g plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
175g sugar
175ml milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon veg oil
2 large eggs (beaten)

Preheat over to 160.
Sift flour,baking sugar and salt.
Add other ingredients and mix.
Pour batter into the cups until half way up.
Place in oven for 12-15 minutes.

Done all the above (except for sifting as I need a new sieve) and they just come out flat with no rise as all.First batch I mixed by hand, second batch I used my mixer.

Any ideas what's going wrong or is it just a naff recipe?

In which case, does anyone have a good one for baked doughnuts?

  • That's the amount of flour & baking powder I used for scones the other day, & they rose, so its weird!

    uuuuummm... Thinking...

How old is your baking powder & is it ok in other stuff? Or, did you get them straight in a hot oven after mixing? Baking powder starts to work straight away, so if they were waiting for a bit, or the oven not hot enough, that could do it?

Is there no sugar in the recipe?

Eta I see 175g salt, gather this is your sugar?
    Ignore me, lol

Is that a mistype with the salt - 'cause 175g would certainly give you a flat doughnut!

ETA - lol, sorry, glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought this and it's your sugar! I don't think there's enough fat in the recipe, maybe you could try a different one, like this?

Got the baking powder today after dropping what I had left on the floor:o

First lot went straight in second lot went in after a few minutes.

There's a slight (and I mean slight) rise in the centre but just like buns that have gone wrong.

Oven had been on 40 minutes before I put them on,given temp seems a bit low to me (not that I'm an expert, just never done any baking on 160 before).

How thick does the batter come up? I use a doughnut maker will go get my recipe as it sounds like the batter may be a bit wet?

The batter seems a little heavier than I thought it may be,like a heavy cake mix

    the recipe I use is

    75g (3oz) plain flour
    50g (2-oz) sugar
    2 tspns baking powder
    1/4 tspn salt
75 ml (3 fl oz) milk
    1 large egg
2 x 15ml spoons (tablespoons) oil or melted butter

as I said I use this in the doughnut maker but some of the girls bought tins and its worked so worth a try.
Yes its usually quite thick like a wet cake mix but not as sloppy as a yorkie pud if that makes sense?
I'm sure we have a doughnut thread will go have a looksee if theres any other recipes for you

Ah,thanks for that, interesting that yours uses more fat than mine despite having lower quantities of everything else! Will give that a go.

Will also check my scales just incase lol

Oh,just noticed I used the medium eggs instead of large (right next to each other) but would that really make such a difference?
