Disabled and need money for wheelchair and equipment

I hope someone can help me. This is a bit complicated so hope not droned on too long! Myself and my husband currently have a mortgage on our bungalow. My mum died suddenly two years ago and had a lot of small debts with clubs, stores, etc. amounting to about £15000. We were lucky in that these debts were written off. There is a property - a flat - which my mum's partner currently resides in and we wish him to do so until he wants as he is like a dad to me. There is no mortgage on this property and it has been transferred into my name. As a condition of the will if and when the flat is sold the money is divided. My mum put as a condition of the will that it cannot be sold for 5 years. I need to raise funds as been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and need to buy a wheelchair and do some adaptations to our home. We are unable to borrow more against our property (esp. as I have had to give up work) and although get DLA and incap benefit I now get half of my wages as I had a v good job. Could I borrow against my mum's flat to do work at my home and if so, would the written off debts have to be paid? When debts are written off is it for good or not? V confused. Thank you for any help you are able to give. I am still in shock really from my mum's death (we were v close and the doctors made a misdiagnoses) and the MS diagnoses. Everything getting on top of me now. Thank you for reading and hope you can help. Em x

Hi Em,
I just want to say, I am really sorry what your recent diagnosis. My ex partner had MS, he was diagnosed in 2007- he is now in motorised wheelchair because his health dramatically declined over the last few years. We split because he pushed me away and would not allow me to help him.
Do you have a carer, I am sure you can get a wheelchair on the NHS? I am not sure.DEBTFREE AND PROUD!!0 -
Hi,
Firstly you contact your GP who will write to Social Services who have access to funds to buy a wheelchair and do alterations to your home according to your disability.
You will in time need the services of their Disability Officer who will arrange extra payments to you or yout husbanf who may be paid as your official 'care'
You should never try to do all this alone. There is lots of free help and advice,
Write to the MS Society, they have lots of free booklets which will explain everything you want to know.
Make yourself known to the local District Nurses attached to your surgery, who will also have access to various nursing and social needs equipnent.
All this help and equipment is free. Remamber you are entitled to the best treatment and care possible, do not take second best.
God bless you
