Voluntary Work in NI

Hi All,
I'm sort of stuck in a mire at the moment following relationship breakdowns and the feelings of loss and regret that comes with this. I've been reading online that many people recommend voluntary work as a way to help other people and to allow for personal self development as well as the opportunity to form new relationships.
Does anyone recommend any such voluntary schemes in NI? Possibly something just once a fortnight or even month just to see how it goes.

I work in my local Barnardo shop only a half day a week.
I love , I love meeting the customers, sorting and pricing the stock, the other volunteers are good craic and I get to play dressing up with bg dolls when the window display needs changing.
Its something I never thought I would do but has helped me get over all three children leaving home for uni and their own lives.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
I've been volunteering at ASSISI Animal Sanctuary since April & thouroughly enjoy it.I not only care for the feral cats housed in ASSISI but also drive animals over to England for the COAL programme.

I've done volunteer work and it's very rewarding.
Volunteer NI have schemes where you can do a one-off volunteering event. They are a very good agency and will want you to find the right volunteer opportunity for you - you won't be under pressure to do something that you don't feel is right for you. It's worth dropping in to have a chat with them.
Also to add it's worth thinking about what you might like to do? Work in a shop or an office? Volunteer for events or fundraising? Even volunteer as a board member? Do your interests lie in the voluntary arts, medical charities, social care charities, working with older people, disabled people, children etc? There are a lot of possibilities and it's worth having a think ahead of time about what you want to get out of it and what you would most like to do.0 -
