Just engaged....stuck already!

Hi All,
Recently returned from hols where my OH proposed.....very excited and pleased!

We are looking for a Sept 2013 wedding and hoping to do it on a budget - £5k absolute max.

We are hoping for an unusual (and cheap!) venue where we can have our own caterers...but this is where we are getting stuck. Nearly everywhere we look are insistent we use their caterers. Has anyone had any experience of booking venues where they could do their own catering and if so what type of venues did you look at?

Thanks!

    Congrats on your engagement!!!

Have you thought about village halls? National lottery grants have meant loads of brand new pretty hall across the country with facilities to bring in your own caterers! Many have fields attached to them for whatever unusual elements you want to bring in! You could always get married at a church or registry office, or hire a venue for ceremony only - a gorgeous place we saw charged £800 for this + 2 hours for photography. And then use a village hall for the reception. Many are super cheap to hire and in lovely surroundings. And often have a pay bar they will run for free provided your guests spend a minimum amount, or for a small fee.

    Just a thought :)

Whereabouts are you from? Someone on here might know of the perfect venue for you. You can have a lovely wedding for £5k :)

Also, some venues can offer their own catering at quite reasonable prices, usually in a package.

  • Thanks CompBunny, that's really helpful.
We're not too set on a place, probably will end up having wedding in South Wales, but we've both lived all over so have no real ties anywhere, which is making things even more difficult!

On the Bwlck shelves on the Mac Loop if you want to be really different. (You or OH do really need to be keen on low flying Aviation photography though).
