I work as a security guard.
Supervisor phoned me, said can i go to a site. I asked what is it and was told a house/building getting renovated.
Went to said site and crowd of kids, 11-14 age broke two windows of my car that i had parked out-side it, as you would.
Got Police out and the officer said, we are never away from this place. Seems it is used as an hostel for ex prisoners including sex offenders.
If i had been told by my work that this building was used for this i would have parked my car elsewhere.
I talked to my supervisor to-day and he said, well i thought it was only a house getting done up. Should he have found out exactly what the building was about and pre warned me?
If you need to look at the history of this building, try Thompson House, Antrim Road, Belfast.
OK, it's not a good idea to sue your employer for damages as they will usually get you back, but what do you think i should do?
Guess £500 to fix damage.
(maybe on wrong part of sit here, but try your'e best folks)

Does your employer conduct site risk assessments before sending you to work there?
Environmental/ road traffic, lone worker, support response and access.......Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
I'd try sourcing replacement glass from a scrapyard if that's possible.0

Well, you would assume they do.
This was a late call for our seurity firm to go there, i was on the 2nd night, building had bee stoned the first night.
We phone in every hour to check in we are ok.
Good point there you say about site risk there, as i think they should have done better.
It's only after i got home, and bearing in mind what the Police Officer had said to me about the building being the subject of attack that i thought i should had had more knowlage of what i was going to.0 -
Do you have business use on your insurance? If so, you could consider a claim, but if not, then actually you weren't insured. Good luck in getting it sorted though....0

Surely, as long as he had car insurance, he was insured. The journey was equivalent to commuting (between home and place of work) and parking was not for business purposes but the convenience of the OP.0 -

The commuting clause in most policies covers commuting to a single place of work - travelling between multiple places of work usually counts as business use (e.g. sales, visiting clients etc). This sounds very much like business use.0 -

As a security guard i can travel by car to several different places in the same week. Though i think i will check that one out.0 -

Sorry but this is completely incorrect.
Commuting with most insurers is classed as between home and a SINGLE place of work.
I was an agency driver and would be at different places sometimes twice a week or more. I had to get Class 1/A business use on my insurance policy even though I was driving from home to work as I didn't have a single place of work. The good news is the majority of insurance companies will give you this for no extra premium.0 -
If there is no damage to the car other than glass (or even damage from that glass hitting the rest of the car) then you'd just submit a glass claim on your car insurance
Whilst from what you say you need at class 1 business use (assuming no other drivers use it for business purposes) the reality is for a glass claim they are unlikely to do any checks - many insurers telephone steering puts you straight through to their glass company rather than speaking to the insurer themselves0
