home made window cleaner

today i made some window cleaner from a "recipe" i found
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 cups water
1/2 tsp washing up liquid

it worked brilliantly! our windows were filthy(obviously i had left them to get this bad to really test the product scientifically!!!:rotfl:)

and its going to save lots of money as this was enough to fill a 500ml bottle, for just pence.

BUT... the only trouble is i really dont like the smell of vinegar, i left the windows open and the smell went quickly, but i wondered whether it would be ok to add some drops of essential oil to the mix to make it smell better?

any ideas?

Think it was from this site I use it sometimes and found the cleaner good

  • All I've ever used on my windows for years is a squirt of washing up liquid in half a bucket of warm water. I use a green sponge (with the scouring nylon on one side - great to get rid of the bird poop!). Then a squeegee (sp?) to take it all off - leaves brilliant windows with the least possible exertion (then why don't I do them more often........?!).
  • Now I had this wonderful vision......of "making" a "window cleaner". Like the one in the diet coke ads? Too much tv LOL.

I use a half cap of Zoflora in a Pint Spray bottle of Warm Water, mist windows and wipe dry with a Microfibre cloth. Leaves clean and nice smell.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

My sister puts a teabag in hot water and leaves it to go cold. Then pours the water mu us tea bag into a spray bottle. Cleans the windows and mirrors realy well. Think it was a Kim and Aggie tip.
I will also try the zoflora never thought of using it fot that.

When you have cleaned your windows use some scrunched up newspaper to finish it off.

It really does make them shine as well as drying them.

You can use a steam cleaner on windows and then just rub it over with a clean cloth. (hold steam cleaner a few inchs from windows, only do on warm days).

My Grandma was born in 1906 and used this recipe all of her married life!

The vinegar served as a disinfectant in the days when there wasn't much else to use

I know what you mean about the smell, though!
