Changing mind about buying from friend. Need advice...

Options
Hey all! Just wanted to get advice from some of you lovely people here :)

I was going to buy a DSLR camera from a friend but he wants cash on collection and I don't feel comfortable carrying that much in person, plus it is quite hard for me to withdraw that amount from the bank (the camera is about £1300, HSBC puts a limit on my debit card, and there's no counter services around where I work). However, my boyfriend's work colleague is selling the exact same camera as my friend, with added kit and for a much cheaper price (plus he accepts bank transfer making it much easier to pay him). I know this sounds really bad but... how do I tell my friend I don't want to buy his camera any more? If I say it's because I don't have the money I'm afraid he'll find out I lied later on if he sees me with the camera... Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

  • Tell the truth, that another friend has offered you a better deal on the same model of camera and they will let you pay with bank transfer.

What camera is it? your friend might well have overvalued it anyway, depreciation on DSLR's can be huge.

Thanks for the advice :) Hope he won't be too mad, hehe... It's the Canon 5D MKII. I made a mistake, he actually offered it for £1150, but the work colleague wants to sell his for £1100 plus it comes with an extra 2 4GB CF cards with Magic Lantern and book by David Busch. I could do without the book, but it's just the convenience of paying via bank transfer that makes me lean more to the work colleague. Plus it helps I save £50... ;P
  • LOL. Nice 5dmkII's seem to be selling for less than a grand on Ebay. Take out listing and paypal fees, the sellers seem to be getting about £900 in their hands. Do an advanced search on completed items and see.

Me, I'd be looking at offering about £1025 by bank transfer
