Bankruptcy & Adoption

My wife & I have been trying for a second baby for around 4 years now with no luck.
We desperatly don't want my son to be an only child and so have been considering adoption.

However, we went through Bankruptcy in Jan and wondered if anyone has had an experience of how this would effect being able to adopt? :(

Now the we are debt free and I'm back in stable employment we are financialy stable etc.

  • The LA's I know do not allow fostering or adoption from undischarged bankrupts. Once discharged I don't know of any problems.

Cheers Pippa, it's just something we are beginning to think about, but thought I better find out about our BR first before it even gets to near becoming a reality.

We were made BR in Jan so no worries there.
  • Hi There
I went BR in April 2008,
We were going to go with Adoption earlier in the year and I told them early about it
They said it would be fine - BUT they would need to ensure that it wasn't going to be a burden on the finances by going through the adoption process and bringing up a child.
So in other words as long as your finances support the fact that you would be supporting (financially) a child(ren) then it shouldn't be an issue but you most certainly would want to alert the adoption agency asap.
    Hope this helps
  • hello there
there is a huge shortage of adopters and large numbers of children with plan for adoption, so as long as you decent, honest, able to reflect on the why's and dont have too many skeletons in your cupboard, you may be ok. Its a long slog tho throught the assessment.
Be upfront. Some children have adoption allowances in principle, so your finances now should not impact on decisions.
:hello: The grass is not greener, it just looks that way from a distance :hello:
