Beef - Will this be okay?

I bought a few slices of beef for sandwiches from the butcher on Saturday, we haven't used it. Will it be okay if I freeze it now for use another time? It smells fine

    Hi reverie,

Was there any indication of a best before date on the packaging? If it looks and smells fine I'd freeze it. Just check it again when you defrost it.

I'm sure it'll be fine, as long as it looks and smells ok.

I don't think I would. It's been 5 days in the fridge now and you don't know how long the butcher had it.

On a brighter note, if you get sick someone will be able to give you an OS remedy for sure. :D

  • Personally I wouldn't but let's face it, years ago they'd have kept it a week with no fridge and them happily eaten it!

My mother still does the sniff test :D "never used to have sell by/use by dates, you sniffed it and if it smells okay you eat it" must admit I am not so strict about dates, personally if it smells okay I'd eat it :D

    Oops :o

I forgot to put it in the freezer yesterday afternoon. This morning, decided not to take the chance. It pained me to throw food away. I guess it does make me realise how OS we are most of the time though :A

Thanks for the replies all, will be most organised in future
