GHD Straighteners

Want a bit more advice now. Its my son's 18th in a couple of weeks and he wants GHD hair straighteners. He has told me that they are about £80-£90 and my daughter paid about that for hers. She is away at uni so he cant use hers. I have been looking on line but I am not sure that the ones that I am looking at have the automatic cut out that hers have. I want this to prevent him from burning the house down as before now he has left them on in his room . I dont want to say no because its all he wants apart from clothes. Can anyone advise me if they all have this or is it just the new model? I have texted her but she hasnt replied and I want to get them soon.

The latest versions will have the cut-out, but make sure you buy from a reputable dealer online. I bought mine from beautysleuth online in December, version 3 but I tghink they are on v4 now, very good service, and they do some good package deals. You will have to choose from either the thin or the wide irons remember.

Don't buy from ebay as some of them are not the genuine article - the genuine ones will have a hologram on them. Good luck:eek:
    I am finally a homeowner!!

Thanks. I think as I have to go out I will leave it until tonight when I have more time to research but I will keep your advice in mind. Daughter has just told me they all have it as hers are 2 years old and they have it.

Hi there (be gentle, first post)
Yes the only ones that have automatic shut off are the Mk fours which are priced at £119 for the standard version.
I have just bought a pair from Look Fantastic and you get freebies (thermal protector sprays etc.)
Not sure how much the mini ones are OR if you can PM me but I have just put my brand new ones on ebay cos my lovely boyf bought me a pair too!!
:D Will be happy to give you details of the free deal I got (I got a free Babyliss hairdryer)

My original GHDS which I had for two and a b it years ( but had stolen) did not have automatic shut off. Am pretty certain its only the MK4s that do and they have a more rounded barrel too for curling (not sure if your son will use that function?)

Ps. My brother is 21 in four weeks. I just bought him a lovely Fossil watch from Amazon - had 60 per cent off!! Know it's not what he asked for but it was worth mentioning as it was reduced from £95 to £38!

My son purchased the Mini GHDs for short hair about 3 weeks ago and they dont have the automatic cut off. I understand it is only the new original size ones which have the automatic cut off. Look at this site for more details. This is where we got his.

Hi, as far as i'm aware it is just the mk 4 ones that turn off automatically after 30 minutes. There are a few sizes of straighteners that GHD do as you are prob aware. The most common ones for men are the 1cm thick irons, they don't do these in the mk 4 range though that I know of which means they won't have the automatic turn off. I would recommend you try HQhair.com which is where i purchased mine from, they always seem to come up cheaper than anywhere else. Next day delivery, very efficient, i've put a link to the ones I refer to above, http://www.hqman.com/code/products.asp?PageID=805&SectionID=945&FeaturedID=8765&FeaturedProduct=2029&pID=1&PageBrand=HQMan

    Hope this helps.
