Confused & More Confused?

My parents bought their house from the council in 1993 for £51,000 yet have always been priced in Band C.
We have contacted the listing officer and received a letter today saying we are in the correct Band. And we have no grounds to appeal the decision.
Most of the houses here are Band C.

But there is the fact that the house was bought for £51,000 in 1993.
We're not sure what to do now,or in fact,if there actually is anything to do?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Fliodhas

Presumably the price they paid was not the true market value but a discounted one for tenants.

if there house is the same size and rooms as others in the street then the ctax band is likely to be the same..... as previous person mentioned did your parents buy it through RTB - ie discounted from the council, then the price they paid would not have been a true reflection of the value of the property
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Thank you for your replies.

The actual price they paid for the house was £27,500.
A discount of £23,500 from the value price of £51,000 for being tenants.

It is a semi detached property and all the houses in the entire street of Heathway,Dagenham are Band C whether they be semi-detached,terraced or even the odd one that is completely detached.

They even have the original value of £51,000 from the council on documents.
Surely it should have been placed in Band B - this is what I am confused about???

Any advice always welcome - mainly because I'm an idiot!
  • Would it be worth our while,to speak with the listing officer.
To explain that the house was actually valued and sold by the council for £51,000 in 1993.
So exactly why would they place it in Band C ?
